iPhone 11 Might Support Apple Pencil: Analysts https://beebom.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/04/iphone-xi-triple-cameras-selfie-camera-featured.jpg

The iPhone 11 should be coming out in September with iOS 13, camera improvements, and a new A13 chipset, but, according to Citi analysts, the upcoming iPhone will also come with support for Apple Pencil.

As of now, the Apple Pencil is only supported on the iPad Pro, and 6th-generation iPads, and bringing it to the iPhone would be a major shift for Apple.

Either way, since Citi analysts usually focus on companies’ financials instead of future product features, there’s no way to set odds on how accurate this information might be.

Apart from that, the report also mentions a lot of the things that we already know about the upcoming iPhone models including the fact that they’ll come with the same displays as the current generation iPhones, larger batteries, and the bigger, disturbing-looking camera modules on the two expensive models.

Citi is also predicting that Apple won’t be increasing the prices of the new iPhones, with the iPhone 11 expected to launch at the same $999 price as the iPhone XS, so I guess at least that’s something.

Google Pay Will Now Send SMS Alerts for Secure Transactions https://beebom.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/08/Google-Pay-shutterstock-website.jpg

As part of its ongoing efforts to reduce instances of fraud on its Google Pay platform, the tech giant on Wednesday announced that it is rolling out a new feature that will make transactions simpler and more secure.

In an official press release, the company said that to help users easily identify suspicious transactions, Google Pay will now send app notifications as well as SMS alerts to inform users each time they receive a ‘collect’ request. The message will highlight that approving the request will deduct money from their bank accounts, the company said.

“We are mindful that at Google Pay, users are entrusting us with their most sensitive asset – their money. We are conscious of the responsibility that comes with this trust”, Ambarish Kenghe, Director, Product Management, Google Pay said in a blog post on Wednesday. “The above security features, and a lot more ongoing work in this direction, are a small example of how we keep our users safe”, he said.

In the last two years, instant bank-to-bank transfers via Unified Payments Interface (UPI) have become the preferred form of payment for millions of people in India, with many users adopting digital payments for the first time. Google Pay comes with several of Google’s security infrastructure including machine learning-based scam prevention models. As part of the plan, the app explicitly displays ‘scam’ or ‘stranger’ warnings if a user receives a request from someone suspicious or not in their contacts, Google said.

Google Pay has become one of the most popular payments apps in India ever since it was launched in the country a couple of years ago. While it was known as Google Tez back then, it has since been re-branded to Google Pay. It operates atop the United Payments Interface (UPI) and hence, can be used wherever UPI payments are accepted.

Galaxy Tab S6 Launched with Snapdragon 855, New S-Pen, More https://beebom.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/galaxy-tab-s6-launched-featured.jpg

Samsung has today launched its latest tablet offering, the Galaxy Tab S6, ahead of the upcoming and much-awaited Note 10 launch on August 7 in New York.

The tablet, that Samsung is portraying as a “new tablet that allows people to create and connect, enjoy immersive entertainment, and accomplish their goals wherever they go” looks pretty good, and comes with advanced technology, a new S-Pen for an even better stylus experience, and an in-display fingerprint scanner.

The Tab S6 is the first tablet from the South Korean giant to feature a dual rear camera, with a 13MP + 5MP camera set-up on the back, along with an 8MP selfie shooter on the front. It also comes with a ‘7nm octa-core chipset’ which means it’s the Snapdragon 855 powering the tablet, so that’s great.

Paired with the processor is 6/8GB RAM and 128/256GB storage, and a 7,040mAh battery powering it all up. That battery sounds like a necessity when you consider that the Tab S6 comes with a 10.5-inch WQXGA SuperAMOLED display.

The S-Pen now magnetically attaches to the Tab S6, thanks to an indent on the back, and it also supports wireless charging, so you can just attach the S-Pen to the Tab S6 and it’ll begin charging, providing you with 10 hours of S-Pen usage with just 10 minutes of charging. The S-Pen also supports 4,096 pressure levels, so you can use it for sketching and drawing with ease.

Apart from all of that, the Tab S6 comes with a new and improved version of DeX, and the Book Cover keyboard for the Tab S6 comes with a dedicated DeX key to let you seamlessly move from tablet mode to DeX mode.

Samsung hasn’t announced the pricing for the Galaxy Tab S6, but it will be available in select markets starting late August in three colours: Mountain Gray, Cloud Blue and Rose Blush.

Spotify Has 108 Million Premium Subscribers Against Apple Music’s 60 Million https://beebom.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/03/Spotify-Changelog-A-History-of-the-App-Updates.jpg

Spotify Changelog A History of the App Updates

At its Q2, 2019 earnings call on Tuesday, Spotify announced that its music streaming service now has 108 million premium subscribers, up 31 percent from the same period last year. Overall, the company claimed to have a total of 232 million ad-supported monthly active users (MAUs), up 29 percent year-on-year. It had ended Q1 with 100 million premium users and 217 million monthly active users.

In a press release earlier today, Spotify said that its operations in India, its newest market, “performed well and in line with expectations”. The company launched its service in India at the end of February and, hit a million users within its first week. It claimed to have signed-up a million more users in the following few weeks. It isn’t, however, immediately clear as to how many of them have subscribed to the premium tier.

The latest numbers show that Spotify continues to remain the leading music streaming service ahead of its Apple Music, which is believed to have around 60 million permium users worldwide. The latter, however, is believed to have gone past Spotify in the US earlier this year with 28 million premium subscribers, as opposed to the former’s 26 million.

It should be noted, however, that Spotify’s total number includes those that signed up during a promo that the company ran from mid-May thru June, offering three months of Spotify Premium for $0.99 or equivalent. It remains to be seen how many of them will retain their premium subscriptions once the promo period runs out.

Spotify earlier this month rolled out a lightweight version of its app in 36 countries as part of its efforts to reach more users in developing markets, including India. Called Spotify Lite, the slimmed-down app weighs in at between 10-15MB (depending on the device), as opposed to the massive 100MB download of the full-fledged alternative. It was originally launched in beta last year and, is aimed at users with slower phones and limited data availability.

Zomato Food Delivery Now Available in 500 Cities Across India https://beebom.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/Zomato-logo-shutterstock-website.jpg

Zomato on Monday announced that its food delivery services are available in 500 towns and cities across India after expanding into 120 new markets in July. The company had originally aimed to hit the milestone by September, but fueled by steady growth and massive cash infusions from investors like Sequoia Capital, it has managed to exceed its expectations, although some within the industry are wondering whether the expansion is happening too fast, too soon.

Zomato, however, seems oblivious to such concerns as it expands aggressively into Tier III and Tier IV cities around the country. “We are able to maintain this momentum thanks to our data-driven strategy of reaching out to places that show potential and come true on our set criteria”, said the company on its official blog. As part of its expansion strategy, Zomato had made its food delivery services available in 300 cities last month after hitting the 200 mark in April.

Some of the latest cities to be added to the list include Alappuzha and Malappuram (Kerala), Pushkar (Rajasthan), Ankleshwar and Mehsana (Gujarat), Kanyakumari, Kodaikanal and Cuddalore (Tamil Nadu), Itarsi and Ashoknagar (Madhya Pradesh), Fazilka and Nawanshahr (Punjab), Vrindavan and Azamgarh (Uttar Pradesh), Daltonganj (Jharkhand), Pataudi (Haryana), Osmanabad and Sawantwadi (Maharashtra), Shillong (Meghalaya) and more.

To provide readers with insight into the food-ordering habits of small-town residents, Zomato said that Chicken Biryani has been the most-ordered non-veg item in these cities, while Masala Dosa took the pole position in the veg category. The company also sought to dispel notions that it is growing too fast for its own good, saying many of the new markets are not only clocking impressive numbers but also registering high-value orders, including a single order worth Rs. 6,995 in Nagaur, Rajasthan, with a population of 1.3 lakh.

Netflix Tests Adjusting Video Quality By Tracking Your Physical Activity https://beebom.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/11/Netflix-featured.jpg

Testing new features to make your service better is a perennial task and Netflix knows it well. The streaming giant was earlier testing a mobile-only subscription plan and it went live in India last week. Now that users will have the opportunity and the means to easily watch content on the move, Netflix is testing a quirky new feature.

Netflix is tracking the physical activity of some users via its Android app. Yes, a security researcher recently spotted that the video streaming app has permission to access your physical activity (accessible on Android Q, coming to all users soon). I mean, anyone is going to freak out if they find Netflix knows when they’re walking or running, right? The security researcher posted his findings on Twitter, as you can see below:

This is an odd permission to have for a streaming service, no doubt, so The Next Web investigated into this matter. And we now know the reason why. Netflix is testing this feature that improves video playback quality based on the physical activity of subscribers.

Netflix further adds that it simply tested the feature with a select few users and has no plans of rolling it out widely anytime soon. “We are continually testing ways to give our members a better experience. This [physical activity tracking] was part of a test to see how we can improve video playback quality when a member is on the go.”

The streaming giant was silently running this test using the newly introduced physical activity permission in Android Q – which is expected to officially roll out in a couple of months. It collects the data generated from motion detectors and other sensors in our Android phones, which should give Netflix a good idea of your current physical activity.

Netflix isn’t 100 percent clear on whether it’s decreasing the streaming quality when a member is on the move or increasing it. However, it sounds like an interesting feature, which we would like to learn more about. Wouldn’t you? Tell us in the comments below.

Vivo Z5 Launched with Snapdragon 712, 48MP Triple Cameras, and More https://beebom.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/farmto-table-7-2.jpg

Vivo Z5 launched in China

Vivo launched its first Snapdragon 712-powered smartphone, the Vivo Z1 Pro, in India recently. It’s a sweet budget offering with a punch-hole display and triple rear cameras, which is called Vivo Z5x in China. Thus, the Chinese giant has today launched sort-of a sibling for this device in its home country.

Vivo Z5 today went official in China as the second Snapdragon 712 smartphone in the company’s budget portfolio. It packs a myriad of modern features such as a waterdrop notch, AMOLED screen, in-display fingerprint sensor, and a 48MP camera. Let’s take a closer look at this smartphone.

Vivo Z5: Price and Availability

Vivo Z5 has been priced starting at 1,598 yuan (roughly Rs 16,000) for the base variant with 6GB RAM and 64GB storage. You can find the pricing details for all other variants right here, as there are a lot of them:

  • 6GB+128GB – 1,898 yuan (Rs 19,000)
  • 6GB+256GB – 1,998 yuan (Rs 20,000)
  • 8GB+128GB – 2,298 yuan (Rs 23,000)

The Vivo Z5 will be available in three vibrant color variants – namely Aurora Illusion (purple), Holographic Illusion (pearl white), and Bamboo Forest Night (green).

Vivo Z5: Specs and Features

Much like any other smartphone launching these days, the Vivo Z5 also brings along a vibrant and reflective gradient finish on the rear panel. There’s only a triple rear camera setup here, which makes the design feel clean and minimal. The fingerprint scanner has been moved under the display, in line with most trendy smartphones today.

Vivo Z5

This smartphone sports a 6.38-inch Super AMOLED display with a waterdrop notch design up-top. This means it has a 19.5:9 aspect ratio, 2340×1080 pixels resolution, & 90% screen-to-body ratio. There’s a considerable chin at the bottom as compared to all other bezels, but it’s nothing that will disrupt your daily use or viewing experience.

As we’ve already mentioned above, Vivo Z5 is the second smartphone in the company’s portfolio to be powered by the Snapdragon 712 chipset. It’s a powerful chipset that sees minor performance upgrades over the Snapdragon 710 (has the same Adreno 616 GPU that’s capable of running Fortnite) and is comparable to the Snapdragon 675 chipset as well. It is paired with up to 8GB RAM and 256GB storage. It comes bundled with Vivo’s Multi-Turbo technology that improves the performance and better optimizes the gaming experience.

Vivo Z5 cameras

In the camera department, Vivo Z5 comes equipped with a triple rear-camera setup. This includes a primary 48MP sensor, paired with a secondary 8MP ultra-wide-angle lens (with 120-degree field of view) and a third 2MP depth sensor. There’s a 32MP sensor for selfies fitted into the waterdrop notch on the front. Vivo offers a number of cool camera features such as Remosaic, Night mode 2.0, AR effects, and more.

It runs Android 9 Pie-based FunTouchOS out-of-the-box, which packs a ton of interesting features. Vivo Z5 comes packed with a massive 4,500mAh battery and support for 22.5W fast-charging called FlashCharge out-of-the-box. It packs a USB Type-C port and 3.5mm headphone jack as well. This makes the budget device lot more attractive for the masses who want to quickly juice up their device before running out for work.

This could be a sweet sibling to the Vivo Z1 Pro, so we hope Vivo brings it to India really soon. What are your thoughts on the Vivo Z5? Let us know in the comments below.

Facebook’s New Technology Could Let You Communicate With Your Thoughts https://beebom.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/Brainwave-shutterstock-website.jpg

With Neural engineering becoming an emerging area of interest among consumer technology companies, Facebook is reportedly funding a study to see if researchers can ‘decode’ brainwaves into speech to help people who cannot speak. While the company had announced its brain-to-computer interface (BCI) program back at the F8 developer conference in 2017, it is only now that concrete results regarding the project have been published publicly.

The study, conducted by researchers at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF), claims to have been able to prove the aforementioned theory with three epilepsy patients voluntarily implanted with electrodes. Published over the weekend on Nature, the study seems to successfully demonstrate that brain activity recorded while speaking could, indeed, be decoded into speech in real-time, but only as long as it’s among a limited set of answers in response to predetermined questions.

Facebook is now funding a new, long-term research project that will test the theory among volunteers who cannot speak. The company, however, is in no illusion about how long it might take for the study to yield results. In a recent interview to CNN, Mark Chevillet, a research director at Facebook Reality Labs, said that he doesn’t expect any definitive results within the next decade. “This is a long-term research program … We expect that to take upwards of 10 years”, he said.

At its annual F8 developer conference in 2017, Facebook announced plans to build what it called a ‘non-invasive, wearable device that lets people type by simply imagining themselves talking’. The device, it said, will help patients with neurological damage speak again “by detecting intended speech from brain activity in real-time”. Towards that end, the company was funding the aforementioned research at UCSF to see whether electrodes placed in the brain could help decode speech from brainwaves in real-time.

“Friends” is the sort of American television sitcom which you would enjoy watching tirelessly again and again. It boasts an ensemble cast including Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, David Schwimmer, Matt LeBlanc, and Matthew Perry. Due mainly to its immense popularity, it lasted for 10 consecutive seasons and first aired from 1994-2004 on NBC. Talking about the plot, it basically portraits friends’ fun-loving comedic and romantic adventure in a unique way. Do I need to say more about one of the most famous TV shows of all time or let you unravel the intriguing tale by watching it? It would be way better if you unpack the show as my words wouldn’t be able to describe the story even one bit.

When you talk about one of the best comedies on Netflix, it would be unfair to keep “Glow” out of the discussion. The best part about this comedy TV series is the way it has fictionalized the characters of the 1980s syndicated women’s professional wrestling circuit known as the Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling. Quickly watch both the first and second seasons as the third one is all set to premiere on August 9, 2019.

All I can say about “Frasier” is amazing. This American sitcom was broadcast first on NBC and successfully ran for 11 consecutive seasons from 1993 to 2004. As for the plot, it’s set around Frasier Crane (a Seattle psychiatrist) who offers handy advice on his popular call-in radio show. However, he completely ignores the same advice in his personal relationships. And that leads him in trouble time and again.
