Riot’s New Game ‘Legends of Runeterra’ Launched on PC, Android and iOS https://beebom.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/Legends-of-Runterra-website.jpg

Riot Games’ digital collectible card game, ‘Legends of Runterra‘, is finally out of beta. Set in the world of ‘League of Legends’ (LoL), Runeterra is a strategy card game where players will have to use their skill and creativity to succeed. As is to be expected, the game includes some of the hottest characters from LoL, like Yasuo, Jinx, Ashe, Garen, Teemo, Darius and Zed.

The game, which might remind many of Blizzard’s Hearthstone, requires players to bring a deck of 40 pre-selected cards into a match to face off against an opponent. They’ll then need to choose their preferred champions and combine their cards from different regions to build the perfect deck. To win, a player will need to reduce the health of their opponent’s Nexus from 20 down to zero.

As part of the official launch, Riot also released the game’s first expansion called ‘Rising Tides’ that adds Bilgewater – a new region where pirates plunder with impunity and sea monsters devour entire ships in the blink of an eye. Rising Tides also adds over 120 new cards and 11 champions from the League of Legends universe, including Miss Fortune, Fizz, and Gangplank, among others.

Available for free on Windows, Android and iOS, the game will support cross-play between different platforms. While a Riot account will not be required to play Runterra on mobile, it is a pre-requisite for cross-platform play and sharing account progress between PC and mobile. You can download the game on your PC by the visiting the official Legends of Runterra website, and on your mobile from the Play Store or the App Store.

Intel Unveils 10th-Gen ‘Comet Lake’ Desktop CPUs With up to 5.3GHz Turbo Speeds https://beebom.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/Intel-10th-gen-Core-Desktop-website.jpg

Having announced its Comet Lake laptop CPUs late last year, Intel on Thursday unveiled its 10th-generation Core processor lineup for desktop computers. There are 32 new processors in the lineup, starting with Celeron and Pentium Gold at the entry-level and going right up to Core i9 chips at the top-end. Based on the ‘Skylake’ microarchitecture and built on Intel’s 14++nm process, the chips go up to 10 cores and offer single-core turbo speeds of up to 5.3 GHz.

The top dog in the lineup is the deca-core Core i9-10900K which offers a boost speed of 5.3GHz. It comes with a TDP of 125 watts, but has a turbo power recommendation of 250W. It’s been priced at $488. At the entry-level segment, there’s the dual-core Celeron G5900 and G5900T. Both of them cost $42 a pop, but while the former has a base frequency of 3.4GHz and a 58W TDP, the latter is clocked at 3.2GHz and is rated at 35W.

The Pentiums and Celerons are all dual core parts, but while the Pentium chips are hyper-threaded (2-core, 4-threads), the Celerons (2-cores, 2-threads) miss out on that feature. All the Core i3, i5, i7 and i9 chips are also hyper-threaded. The i3 chips are quad-core parts with eight threads, the Core i5 processors are hexa-core parts with twelve threads, while the Core i7 processors are octa-core parts with sixteen threads.

Certain models, like the Core i9-10900, come with unlocked ‘K’ variants, while some also have additional ‘F’ versions without integrated graphics and slightly lower price-tags. The Core i9 and i7 chips all support dual channel DDR4-2933 RAM, while the rest of the chips only support up to DDR4-2666. The unlocked ‘K’ CPUs will be available for purchase from this month, but there’s no immediate word on when the other chips will officially launched.

iPhone SE is Faster than the Fastest Android Phones: Tim Cook https://beebom.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/iPhone-SE-is-Faster-than-the-Fastest-Android-Phones-Tim-Cook.jpg

iPhone SE is Faster than the Fastest Android Phones - Tim Cook

Apple today reported $58.3 billion in revenue for the first fiscal quarter of this year. In a conference call with analysts, Apple CEO Tim Cook made some bold statements regarding the newly announced iPhone SE.

When senior analyst Samik Chatterjee from JP Morgan asked if the company expects any change in terms of the geographic mix of where the demand comes from, Tim Cook said the device could perform even better in areas with comparatively lower median income.

Cook anticipates a “fair number” of people switching to iOS, saying its an “unbelievable offer”. He then went ahead and claimed the handset is “faster than the fastest Android phones”.

“I would expect to see it doing it even better in areas where the median incomes are less. And so we’ll see how that plays out in. And I expect some fair number of people switching over to iOS. It’s an unbelievable offer. It’s, if you will, the engine of our top phones in a very affordable package. And it’s faster than the fastest Android phones. And so it’s an exceptional value.”, said Cook.

Cook was also asked if the competitive pricing of the iPhone SE was part of Apple’s bigger plans to change its pricing strategy. He replied this saying the company has always been focusing on delivering the best products at a good price.

“We’ve always been about delivering the best product at a good price, and that fundamental strategy has not changed at all. As you know, we did have an SE for a while. It’s great to bring it back. It was a beloved product. And so I wouldn’t read anything into that other than we want to give people the best deal that we can while making the best product.”, Cook added.

Meanwhile, if you’re wondering, the latest tip from credible leakster Jon Prosser suggests that the pricing of the iPhone 12 would start at $649 for the 5.4-inch model and could go all the way up to $1,099 for the 6.7-inch model.

Assassin’s Creed Valhalla is Coming This Holiday Season on Xbox Series X and PS5 https://beebom.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/assassins-creed-valhalla-cinematic-trailer.jpg

Ubisoft last night showcased the first official cinematic trailer for the upcoming entry into the company’s massively popular franchise of open world games — Assassin’s Creed Valhalla.

As the name suggests, the game is set between Vikings and English soldiers. Players will take on the role of Eivor, a Viking raider leading his or her clans “from the harsh shores of Norway to a new home amid the lush farmlands of ninth-century England.” The game will give players the choice to play with Eivor as a male or a female character, along with customisation options. That sounds like a great idea, and one that more games should start implementing.

Along with the main campaign of leading your clans to England, the game will also feature side activities, including hunting, fishing, drinking games, and what Ubisoft calls “verbally devastating rivals through the art of the Viking rap battle.”

The game continues Ubisoft’s practice of making the Assassin’s Creed games feel more RPG-like, complete with deeply customisable combat mechanics. However, long time AC fans will probably be happy about the game bringing back the beloved ‘hidden blades’.

Valhalla is in good hands, with Ubisoft Montreal being the lead developer for the game. Moreover, Black Flag director Ashraf Ismail is serving as Valhalla’s creative director.

The game will be arriving on Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5 this holiday season, and will also be available on the Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PC, and Google Stadia.

Microsoft Will Showcase Xbox Series X Games on May 7 https://beebom.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/xbox-series-x-hardware-specs-revealed.jpg

2020 is the year we are getting new gaming consoles from both Microsoft and Sony, and while news about the PS5 comes in at an annoyingly slow rate, Microsoft is doing a bang-on job showing off the Xbox Series X and generating hype around the console. After revealing the design and the internal specs of the console, the company has now decided to show off some of the games that will be coming to the console.

A tweet made by the Xbox account teases that the company will showcase gameplay footage from next-gen games coming to Xbox Series X on May 7.

As the tweet states, the company will be showcasing gameplay from games developed by its ‘global developer partners’ — that means third party studios. Games developed by Xbox Game Studios will likely be shown at a later date, as also hinted by Aaron Greenberg, GM of Xbox Games Marketing at Microsoft. He mentioned in a tweet that “the Xbox Game Studios teams are hard at work on some big summer plans.”

News of the upcoming Xbox showcase comes soon after Ubisoft dropped the first cinematic trailer for the latest addition into the Assassin’s Creed franchise — Valhalla. The company has since confirmed that it will show off the first gameplay footage of Assassin’s Creed Valhalla at Microsoft’s even on May 7.

The Inside Xbox event is scheduled for May 7 at 11AM ET/8AM PT; for all of you in India, that’s May 7 at 8:30PM.

JioMeet HD Video Conferencing App Launched; Supports up to 100 Participants https://beebom.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/jiomeet-video-conferencing-app-launched.jpg

jiomeet video conferencing app launched

The COVID-19 lockdown has created a surge in demand for video conferencing apps. Zoom, Google Meet, and Microsoft Teams have witnessed a meteoric rise as businesses and students flocked to replace offline hangouts. Well, Reliance Jio also wants a piece of this pie and has today launched its own video conferencing app – JioMeet.

JioMeet is already live on iOS and Android right now. It allows you to place HD video calls to your friends or colleagues for free. You can sign up for this app via your email or log in via OTP. There’s also the option to join a video call as a guest using the conference link sent to you. It will only require a meeting ID and your name.

JioMeet: Features

Once you are in, you will see tabs at the top – Favorites, Recents, and Contacts. If you want to start a video call, just tap the ‘video call’ icon next to the name of the user. The maximum call quality is set at 720p but the app automatically adapts the quality based on your connection. You can even exchange texts in an overlay over the video call.

JioMeet also makes it super easy to start group calls and what’s exciting here is that it offers some basic admin tools to the host. The host can mute or kill the video feeds of any of the participants. They can also choose to kick any participant or end the meeting for everyone with the tap of a button.

I know, you must be wondering about the participant limit. JioMeet supports only up to five participants for free users. But, if you sign up for the Pro plan and are a business user, you can invite up to 100 people to join your video conference call. All meetings are PIN protected, the company mentions on its FAQ page.

Unlike WhatsApp’s end-to-end encrypted video calls, JioMeet uses SSL 128-bit encryption to ensure the security of your calls. This means your calls are encrypted in transit. JioMeet brings a Conference History feature in tow as well. You can view and listen to old video calls if needed.

JioMeet: First Impression

In my brief time using the JioMeet app, I found the interface to be old-ish and similar to other Jio apps. This is not my biggest concern though. JioMeet works at a crawling pace when placing video calls. First, it doesn’t show a fullscreen UI when the recipient receives a video call. Instead, you will only see a banner notification, which on tapping takes you to a fullscreen UI to accept the call. So, it’s super easy for your friends or family to not even notice that someone is calling them.

jiomeet 2

The list of problems does not end there. JioMeet takes its gala time to connect a video call. The connection is not instantaneous. You will have to wait 4-5 seconds to have the other person’s video pop-up on your screen. My father and I also witnessed some audio issues while testing the app last night.

So overall, JioMeet is a decent attempt at building a video conferencing app. But, you can rely on WhatsApp or Messenger, which recently added Rooms, if you simply want to catch up with friends or relay a message to your office workers.

Aarogya Setu May Become Mandatory for New Phones in India: Report https://beebom.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/aarogya-setu-featured-image-.jpg

Earlier this month, the Indian government launched its coronavirus tracking app ‘Aarogya Setu’. According to reports from LiveMint and News18 citing industry sources and government officials, the app may be installed by default on new smartphones and its registration might be mandatory to start using the phone.

“To enforce this decision, the government of India looks set to appoint nodal agencies that will be the point of contact for smartphone companies, and will be responsible to have the app installed without a skippable step for all new devices. This will make the Aarogya Setu app an inbuilt feature on all new smartphones, that will be sold in India going forward.”, states the report.

From this, it appears like smartphone OEMs would be asked to add software-based restrictions to lock users out of their phones unless they register their phones with Aarogya Setu during the initial smartphone setup process. At the time of writing this article, the government has not made an official statement regarding the matter.

As reported by Live Mint, the government had asked smartphone companies to preinstall Aarogya Setu on phones but that didn’t immediately come into effect due to disruptions in the supply chain that forced companies to pause the manufacturing process.

According to the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), the app has already garnered over 75 million installations in the country. The government is also planning to use Aarogya Setu as an e-pass in common areas like metro stations, as recommended by The Central Industry Security Force (CISF). Meanwhile, a similar contact tracing solution for feature phones is also in the works.

Mi Note 10 Lite with Snapdragon 730G, 64MP Quad-Camera Launched Starting at €349 https://beebom.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/mi-note-10-lite-launched.jpg

mi note 10 lite launched

Xiaomi launched the first-ever 108MP penta-camera phone, the Mi Note 10, last year. It truly packs in a versatile camera array, along with a premium design. The company now wants to extend this to a wider audience with the launch of its younger sibling – the Mi Note 10 Lite in Europe today. Mi Note 10 Lite does share some similarities with its elder sibling but it brings along a different camera setup altogether.

Mi Note 10 Lite: Specs and Features

Mi Note 10 Lite features a 6.47-inch Full-HD+ AMOLED display with curved edges on both sides. The panel boasts a 19.5:9 aspect ratio, 1080 x 2340 resolution, HDR10 support, and Gorilla Glass 5 protection on top. It does not support a higher refresh rate, which is just saddening.

Just like its elder sibling, this smartphone is also powered by the Snapdragon 730G chipset that’s found on a myriad of mid-range phones like the Realme X2 and Redmi K20. This means it does not have 5G connectivity support. There’s up to 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage onboard. It runs Android 10-based MIUI 11 out-of-the-box even though MIUI 12 was unveiled just a couple of days ago.

mi 10 lite camera

Further, neither does the Mi Note 10 Lite feature a 108MP primary sensor nor is its camera setup as versatile as its elder sibling. Instead, it features a primary 64MP Sony IMX686 sensor, along with an 8MP ultra-wide lens with a 120-degree FOV, 2MP macro lens, and a 5MP depth sensor. I would have preferred a telephoto sensor over the depth or macro lens.

The device comes equipped with a massive 5,260mAh battery pack – same as the Mi Note 10, coupled with 30W fast-charging support via the USB Type-C port on board. It means you can completely charge your device in around 64 minutes. You will also find an IR blaster, NFC, a 3.5mm headphone jack at the bottom, and a fingerprint sensor under the display.

Price and Availability

Mi Note 10 Lite is priced at 349 euros (around Rs. 28,450) for the 6GB+64GB variant whereas the 6GB+128GB will see you shell out 399 euros (around Rs. 32,500) in the European market.

This smartphone will be available in three colorways, namely Glacier White, Midnight Black, and Nebula Purple. It will go on sale sometime in mid-May but can be delayed due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

Redmi Note 9 with MediaTek Helio G85, 48MP Quad-Camera Launched https://beebom.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/redmi-note-9-launched-1.jpg

Xiaomi first launched the Redmi Note 9 series in India earlier last month. It included the Redmi Note 9 Pro and Note 9 Pro Max but the standard Redmi Note 9 was missing in action. Well, the wait has finally come to an end though. Xiaomi took the wraps off the Redmi Note 9 in Europe today. It imbibes the same design philosophy as its elder siblings and has been equipped with a new gaming-centric MediaTek chipset, quad-cameras, and a massive battery.

Redmi Note 9: Specs and Features

Starting off with the design, Redmi Note 9 flaunts a polycarbonate build as opposed to the glass build of the Pro variants. This is a step back in comparison to its predecessor, but it makes sense if you want to lower the price tag.

How do you distinguish between the Redmi Note 9 and its Pro counterparts? There are two obvious giveaways. The easiest is the punch-hole placement. It sits at the center on Redmi Note 9 Pro whereas Redmi Note 9 has it at the top left. Second, the fingerprint scanner placement is a dead giveaway as well. It sits below the quad-camera setup on the rear instead of on the edge.

Redmi Note 9 features a 6.53-inch Full HD+ IPS LCD display with a 19.5:9 aspect ratio and 2340 x 1080 resolution. The panel supports 450 nits brightness and has Gorilla Glass 5 protection on top. The punch-hole cutout houses a 13MP selfie camera.

While we earlier assumed Redmi Note 9 will be powered by the MediaTek Helio G80 chipset, Xiaomi has opted for a slightly improved variant of the same. The smartphone packs the Helio G85 chipset to run the show under the hood. It includes two Cortex-A75 cores (performance) clocked at up to 2GHz and six Cortex-A55 cores (efficiency). There’s also up to 4GB of LPPDDR4x RAM and up to 128GB of UFS 2.1 built-in storage onboard. You can expand the storage up to 512GB via a microSD card.

Further, it seems like Xiaomi wants to make the center-aligned square camera system synonymous with the Redmi Note lineup. The Redmi Note 9 includes a quad-camera array, helmed by the 48MP (f/1.79) Samsung GM1 sensor. It’s coupled with an 8MP (f/2.2) ultra-wide lens with a 118-degree FOV, a 2MP macro lens, and a 2MP depth sensor.

Redmi Note 9 comes equipped with a huge 5,020mAh battery pack, along with 18W fast-charging support via the USB Type-C port. So yeah, you should pretty much be sorted on the battery life front. The device also includes a 3.5mm headphone jack, NFC, an IR blaster, and a lot more.

Price and Availability

Redmi Note 9 is priced at $199 (around Rs. 14,900) for the 3GB+64GB variant whereas you will have to shell out $249 (around Rs. 18,690) for the 4GB+128GB variant. You can expect the prices to be slightly lower in India due to local phone manufacturing.

Redmi Note 9 colors

Redmi Note 9 will be available to buy in three attractive colorways, namely Forest Green, Polar White, and Midnight Grey. It will go on sale sometime in mid-May, so stay tuned for more information. We can expect the Redmi Note 9 to make its way to India really soon.

Xiaomi May Launch its First Dolby Vision Certified TV Soon https://beebom.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/mi-tv-4x-55-2020-launched-featured.jpg

mi tv 4x 55 2020 launched

Xiaomi’s lineup of Mi TVs pretty much started the low-cost smart TV trend in the Indian television market, and the company has a huge Mi TV line-up in India and in its home country of China. However, even though its TV portfolio is pretty big, Xiaomi still only offers HDR10+, even on its highest end televisions. So far, there has been no Dolby Vision certification for the company, but that might be changing soon.

According to a Weibo post made by the General Manager of Xiaomi’s TV department (via Gizmochina), a Xiaomi TV with model number L65M5-OD has received design certification from Dolby Laboratories Inc.

As the model number clearly implies — the TV is going to be a 65-inch offering from Xiaomi. Moreover, the ‘OD’ might refer to an OLED panel. Both these things, along with the Dolby Vision certification hint towards an expensive, high-end Mi TV offering from Xiaomi that will likely compete against the best-in-class TVs in the market (mostly Sony, LG, and Samsung’s offerings).

Xiaomi has the upper ground in China, with the company’s TV shipments ranking at number 1 in the country. However, the company ranks fifth in terms of TV shipments worldwide. That’s still a solid position to be in and launch a high-end TV that might pique the interest of a segment of the market with higher buying power.

The company hasn’t given away much in the way of details around this L65M5-OD TV that’s in the works, but stay tuned for more updates because we’re definitely going to keep an eye on this.

How to Install MIUI 12 on Any Xiaomi Device

Amid much fanfare, Xiaomi recently announced MIUI 12 and subsequently released the first closed beta for several devices. As it’s with MIUI, closed betas are generally released in China first and distributed to the rest of the world later. In such a scenario, Xiaomi users from across the globe are unable to experience the new MIUI 12 build. Nevertheless, we managed to install MIUI 12 on our Redmi K20 through TWRP. Not to mention, we also curated the 25 best features of MIUI 12 so that you can take a look at all the exciting new features. So, if you are also looking for a way to install MIUI 12 on your Xiaomi device then you have landed at the right place. In this article, we take you through the complete installation process of MIUI 12 with step-by-step instructions. Now, without losing any moment, let’s jump to the guide and learn how to install MIUI 12.

Requirements

1. First and foremost, you need an unlocked bootloader. If you have not done that yet then you can try this method to instantly unlock the bootloader. Sign-in with an old Mi account that you have used for unlocking bootloader in the past. I tried this method on my Redmi K20 and the bootloader was immediately unlocked without any waiting time. Apart from that, keep in mind, unlocking the bootloader will completely erase your device so back up all your files and folders.

2. Secondly, you need to set up ADB on your computer.

3. Next, download TWRP from the official website for your particular device. You can also look for the latest TWRP build from XDA forums for your Xiaomi device.

3. Finally, download the MIUI 12 Recovery ROM from the below section.

Make Chinese MIUI 12 ROM Compatible with Indian Variants [Only For K20 Pro, K20 and Poco X2]

For some devices launched in India, the internals are almost similar between Chinese and Indian variants, but there is a difference in codenames. For example, K20 Pro is codenamed as raphael in China and raphaelin in India. Similarly, K20 is codenamed as davinci in China and davinciin in India. Finally, Poco X2 which is actually a rebranded Redmi K30 is codenamed as phoenix in China and phoenixin in India.

As we can see, in is appended in all the Indian codenames. So all we need to do is, just add in at the end of the codename and you will be all set. Thereafter, the Chinese MIUI 12 build will become compatible with Indian variants. As a result, you won’t face ‘Error 7’ on TWRP while installing MIUI 12. Here is how you can do it.

1. Download the MIUI 12 ROM for your device (K20 Pro, K20, or Poco X2) from the above section. Make sure to download the file on your computer.

2. After that, install WinRAR (Free) on your computer, in case you don’t have it. Next, right-click on the MIUI 12 ROM and choose “Extract to miui..”.

7. Having done that, move to “Install” and select the MIUI 12 ROM file and swipe to install.

8. After the installation, again go to “Wipe” and tap on “Format Data”. Now, type yes and it will completely erase the device. This step is needed to get out of the encryption loop.

9. Finally, tap on “Reboot System” and you will boot straight into MIUI 12. If TWRP throws ‘No OS installed’ error, do not worry. Just reboot the system anyway and you will boot into MIUI 12.

My MIUI 12 Experience on Redmi K20

If you are wondering whether you should install MIUI 12 or not then my recommendation would be to simply go ahead with the installation. In my testing so far, I didn’t find any bug and the UI/UX is a major step-up from last year’s MIUI 11. In fact, the new gestures, control center, and animations are so good that you need to taste MIUI 12 right now. As for the performance, I didn’t encounter any lag or freezing behavior which is amazing, considering it’s the first beta. Further, the battery life is pretty good — not in the league of stable MIUI 11 — but totally usable. Apart from that, you can change the language to English and install Play Store and other Google services right from GetApps. Overall, my MIUI 12 experience has been pretty good so far and you can definitely try it on your Xiaomi device.

Experience MIUI 12 on Your Xiaomi Phone Right Now

So that is how you can install MIUI 12 and experience the new user interface on your Xiaomi device. I have provided all the steps so go through the instructions point by point and I am sure, you will boot MIUI 12 without a hitch. Canon's New Software Turns Your DSLR into a Webcam

Video conferencing and online classes are globally on the rise due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, which means webcams are important pieces of hardware all of a sudden. Despite various advancements in technology, the quality of inbuilt webcams on a majority of laptops is still not up to the mark and that results in an inferior video calling experience. With all this in mind, Canon has released a new software dubbed EOS Webcam Utility Beta that lets Windows 10 users utilize supported Canon cameras for video calls.

With EOS Webcam Utility Beta, you can plug in your compatible Canon camera to your Windows 10 PC through a USB cable and use it as your primary webcam across popular video-conferencing platforms.

“Built by Canon software developers, this beta version software helps consumers to improve their video appearance while using popular video conferencing applications in the market, delivering clarity and high-image quality.”, wrote the company in a press release.

  • EOS 77D
  • EOS 80D
  • EOS 90D
  • EOS Rebel SL2
  • EOS Rebel SL3
  • EOS Rebel T6
  • EOS Rebel T6i
  • EOS Rebel T7
  • EOS Rebel T7i
  • EOS Rebel T100

EOS Mirrorless Cameras:

  • EOS M200
  • EOS R
  • EOS RP

PowerShot Cameras:

If you own one of the aforesaid cameras, all you have to do is visit EOS Webcam Utility Beta’s page, choose your camera’s model, download and install the software. Once it is installed, set your camera to Movie mode, connect via USB cable, and choose EOS Webcam Utility Beta as the webcam on the video-conferencing platform.

Canon mentions that the software is supported just in the US and will not be supported in other regions just yet. Also, Mac users are out of luck here at the moment. However, Canon says “additional operating systems may be available at a later date”.
