Though the Lenovo Z5 may have disappointed us with an iPhone X-style notch design earlier this year, the company has today launched the full-screen, bezel-less Z5 Pro to finally deliver on its promise. The device comes with a sliding mechanism to avoid the notch, a disappointing but powerful processor, quad-cameras, and a lot more.
Price and Availability
Lenovo Z5 Pro has been priced starting at 1,998 yuan (approx. Rs 21,000) for the base variant with 6GB of RAM and 64GB of storage. You will, however, have to shell out 2,298 yuan (approx. Rs 24,5000) for the 6GB+128GB variant.
This makes Z5 Pro the most affordable phone with a bezel-less design and a new sliding mechanism. The device is now up for pre-order and will go on sale from November 11.
Specs and Features
Lenovo is the latest phone maker to join the likes of Xiaomi and Honor to unveil a device with a retro-style sliding mechanism to move past the widespread notch trend.
The Z5 Pro is made out of series-7 aluminum and the slider mechanism is backed by a six-position guidance structure with a two-parallel axis that should be good for around 3,00,000 slides – which is similar to the lifespan of the sliders on the Mi Mix 3 and Oppo Find X.
Display and Internals
Lenovo Z5 Pro features a huge 6.39-inch AMOLED display, with a display resolution of and a 95.06% screen-to-body ratio. It also packs support DCI-P3 color gamut for rich and vivid colors, HDR 10 for viewing content on Netflix, and the brightness can go up to 600 nits.
There’s only a 2.07mm bezel on the top and the edges as compared to the Mi Mix 3’s 3.15mm bezels size, which is great and guarantees an even immersive experience. Even the bottom bezel is about 1mm narrower on this device, so we’re really getting the Lenovo Z5 Pro we deserved the first time around.
The device is powered by the Snapdragon 710 AIE Turbo chipset, coupled with up to xGB of RAM and xGB of onboard storage. This chipset, as pointed out by Lenovo, also has an on-device AI engine, chip-level payment security and next-gen NFC chip on board. The device also extends Dolby panoramic sound, which is rich, clear, and adjusts based on your position.
The Chinese giant boasts of the inclusion of a fifth-gen optical in-display fingerprint sensor as well. It is said to unlock the device in just 0.2 seconds, which is faster than the 0.34 seconds than the OnePlus 6T is so proud of.
If this is really the case, then it appears like OnePlus was able to hold the crown for the fastest under-display fingerprint sensor for just a couple of days.
Cameras
Coming to the optics, the Z5 Pro brings along a vertically-placed dual-camera system on the rear. It includes a primary 24MP Sony IMX576 sensor (f/1.8) and a secondary 24MP Sony IMX519 sensor (f/1.8) to extend you the ability to capture crisp daylight, stunning night and portrait shots.
As for the front cameras, Lenovo Z5 Pro includes a dual-camera setup with a 16MP and 8MP sensor hidden in the manual slider mechanism. There was no mention of Face Unlock on stage, so we’re unsure of whether it’s included in the device or not.
Software and Battery
The Lenovo Z5 Pro runs the company’s own ZUI 10 skin, which looks awfully similar to Xiaomi’s MIUI 9 from last year. It comes with a myriad of cool new features, including redesigned apps, faster launch times, and 4D U-Touch gestures to launch the camera, or make payments. I like how the clock and weather widget on the homescreen also shows the device charging and Bluetooth headset pairing status.
ZUI 10 also comes with navigation gestures that are part of the 4D U-Touch experience.
The device also packs a 3,300mAh battery, which may be enough to power the massive bezel-less AMOLED display and handle heavy workloads. Lenovo has also launched its own pair of 298 yuan (Rs. 3,200) wireless earbuds, dubbed Air, that feature 6mm drivers, voice assistant on tap, IPX5 rating, 400mAH battery and more.
So, as you can obviously see, the Lenovo Z5 Pro has shaped up to be an amazing offering and could help drive its position in the smartphone market. What are your opinions on the Lenovo Z5 Pro? Let us know in the comments below.
