HMD Global, the Finnish company, behind Nokia smartphones has just launched its brand new budget smartphone in India. Yes, I am talking about the brand new Nokia 4.2, which features some decent specs and has been priced at Rs. 10,990. Take a look at the features of the device:
Nokia 4.2 Specs and Features
The Nokia 4.2 comes with a 5.71-inch HD+ (720×1520 pixels) IPS LCD display and like most Nokia phones, the 4.2 comes with a premium design. The smartphone comes with a sculpted-glass design and a teardrop notch on the front. It has all the usual buttons, plus an additional dedicated Google Assistant button, and like recent Nokia phones, the power button acts as the notification LED. When it comes to the ports, the phone has the headphone jack, a microSD slot and a microUSB port, which is a bit disappointing in 2019.
Under the hood, the phone has 3 gigs of RAM, 32GB of expandable storage and is powered by the octa-core Snapdragon 439 chipset. The Nokia 4.2 is another Android One phone from Nokia and comes with stock Android 9 Pie on board with a few additional features like face unlock.
On the camera front, the Nokia 4.2 comes with a dual camera setup on the back, featuring a 13MP f/2.2 primary camera and a 2MP f/2.2 depth sensor. On the front, there is an 8MP f/2.0 selfie camera.
When it comes to the battery, the phone has a modest 3,000 mAh battery on-board. NFC, Bluetooth 4.2, and dual 4G VoLTE sum up the connectivity options.
“I’m excited to announce the arrival of first in the series Nokia 4.2 smartphone to India for our fans. From AI-powered features like adaptive battery, to a more modern and personal way to interact with your smartphone through the dedicated Google Assistant button, the Nokia 4.2 continues to uphold the promise we make across our smartphones,” Ajey Mehta, Vice President and Country Head-India, HMD Global, said in a statement.
Availability and Offers
The Nokia 4.2 will be available exclusively on Nokia.com for a week starting May 7 and it will be available across select retail stores like Croma, Reliance, Sangeetha, Poorvika, Big C and MyG starting May 14. The phone will be available at all major retail stores starting May 21. The device will come in two colors: Black and Pink Sand.
Our Take
The Nokia 4.2 at Rs. 10,990 is a decent phone on paper, with its key features being the premium Nokia design and Android One experience. However, at its price, the phone competes with the likes of the Redmi Note 7 and ZenFone Max Pro M2, both of which come with more powerful Snapdragon 660 processors, more RAM variants, bigger batteries, and 1080p displays, which means the Nokia 4.2 does seem a bit underpowered and overpriced.
Well, that’s what I think about the Nokia 4.2. What about you?
