The Indian budget smartphone segment has swelled up rapidly over the past year. We have seen a multitude of power-packed and value-for-money offerings from the likes of Xiaomi and Realme. They were found to divide the market over which is better and which to pick. Redmi Note 7 Pro is one such smartphone that provides a complete package under the Rs 15,000 price tag.
You get a premium glass build, a waterdrop notch, and a powerful Snapdragon 600-series processor for an attractive price. However, the biggest caveat of the overall experience is often blamed to be the software. Redmi Note 7 Pro runs Android 9 Pie-based MIUI 10 but users can be found complaining about ads across the board, which can sure be annoying.
Well, if you’re someone who wants to get rid of the ads and are familiar with flashing new custom ROMs on your smartphone, well, you’re in luck. Thanks to the efforts of XDA senior member xdatman, Redmi Note 7 Pro has received official support for LineageOS 16. This means you will no longer have to scour forums for the ideal stock Android experience. You will get regular nightly builds from LineageOS automated build system itself, which is awesome.
Though most of the features work as advertised in these builds, you won’t get the 48MP camera mode that allows you to click higher-resolution photos. You will have to stick to Redmi Note 7 Pro’s pixel-binned 12MP images, which also look good and have plenty of detail. You can download the first nightly build for the Redmi Note 7 Pro right here.
This is another great news for the Indian budget smartphone market. Redmi Note 7 Pro follows after the Asus ZenFone Max Pro M1, which too recently grabbed support for LineageOS 16. While the Max Pro M1 already offers a stock Android experience, one can perk it up and enjoy more features with this popular custom ROM.
