Tencent, Qualcomm Sign Strategic Partnership For Future Gaming Projects https://beebom.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/Tencent-Qualcomm-website.jpg

Chinese tech giant, Tencent, and US chipmaker, Qualcomm, have announced a strategic partnership that they say will deliver premium gaming content and experiences to players and game developers. The companies on Sunday signed what they called a ‘nonbinding memorandum of understanding’ (MoU) for strategic cooperation wherein they are expected to have comprehensive collaborations in the field of digital entertainment.

In a joint press release, the companies said: “The cooperation includes joint efforts anticipated to optimize future projects including Qualcomm Snapdragon-based mobile gaming devices, game content and performance optimizations, Snapdragon Elite Gaming enhancements, cloud gaming, AR/VR, 5G gaming use case developments and additional relevant technologies”.

The cooperation will also help them develop “popular, high quality games that can be experienced by consumers across a variety of Snapdragon platforms and devices”, they said.

While there’s no word on when the results of this collaboration will be released for public consumption, Tencent’s involvement is certainly noteworthy. The company’s gaming division is not only the biggest video game publisher in China but has also successfully expanded globally with the likes of PUBG Mobile. It is also the company behind Call of Duty Mobile, which is already available in places like Canada, Australia and China.

Qualcomm, on its part, is the largest supplier of ARM-based processors used in just about all modern-day smartphones. The company has been the undisputed leader in the sector for a long time and although some of its competitors, such as MediaTek, have begun to close the gap, it still sits at the top as the leading mobile chipmaker.
