Samsung on Tuesday announced its next-gen flagship mobile processor, the Exynos 9825, which is expected to power the upcoming Galaxy Note 10. The company says the new system-on-chip (SoC) will bring enhanced gaming and graphics performance while increasing power efficiency and improving battery life. Featuring the industry’s first 7nm EUV processing technology, the Exynos 9825 is equipped with an advanced neural processing unit (NPU) for powerful AI experiences, including personalized voice assistants and intelligent camera features.

According to Samsung, the Exynos 9825’s NPU was designed for the next generation of mobile experiences, from AI-powered photography to augmented reality. “With fast, efficient AI processing, the NPU brings new possibilities for on-device AI from object recognition for optimized photos, to a suite of performance enhancing intelligence features such as usage pattern recognition and faster app pre-loading”, said the company.

In terms of specs, the Exynos 9825 SoC comes with an octa-core CPU that features a tri-cluster architecture with two 4th-generation custom CPUs that include 2x Cortex-A75 cores for optimal performance and 4x Cortex-A55 cores for greater efficiency. It also comes with Mali-G76 MP12 GPU that the company says will deliver powerful graphics performance for immersive gaming. It will support LPDDR4x RAM, UFS 3.0/2.1 storage and up to 4K UHD (4096×2160) display resolutions.

The Exynos 9825 SoC will also have 5G connectivity, thanks to the Exynos 5100 Modem with 5G NR support. However, most markets will likely get the 4G version of the chipset that will come with a 4G LTE-Advanced Pro Cat.20 modem and 8x Carrier Aggregation for theoretical download speeds of up to 2Gbps and upload speeds of up to 316Mbps.

The Exynos 9825 also comes with a bunch of security features, including a physically unclonable function (PUF) to store and manage personal data in isolation. “While PUF provides the unique key, secure key manager supports other security protocols, such as key generation, storage and derivation”, said the company. Last, but not the least, the new chipset will support up to 8K 30fps or 4K UHD 150fps encoding and decoding with 10-bit HEVC(H.265), H.264, VP9 codecs.
