Xiaomi is all set to launch the Redmi Note 8 and Note 8 Pro in a couple of days from now, and the company has now confirmed an important piece of information about them. Redmi general manager, Lu Weibing, has revealed that the former will be powered by the Snapdragon 665, while the latter will be among the first devices to ship with the MediaTek Helio G90T under-the-hood.
While the latter was revealed last week by MediaTek itself, this is the first time we’ve got an official confirmation of the processor in the standard Note 8. Meanwhile, both phones will have quad-camera setups at the back, but while the Note 8 is expected to have the 48MP Samsung ISOCELL GM2 sensor as its primary imaging option, the latter is said to incorporate the 64MP GW1 snapper from the South Korean tech giant as its primary shooter.
Xiaomi last week announced that its Redmi Note 8 and Note 8 Pro will be unveiled on August 29, alongside the upgraded RedmiBook 14 and the Redmi TV. Both the phones are expected to ship with a teardrop notch up-front to house the front-facing selfie-cam, which means one will still have to wait until next year to get one of those fancy, motorized swivel/pop-up camera housings to make its way through to the Redmi Note lineup.
It will be interesting to see how long it will take for Xiaomi to launch its next-gen Redmi Note devices in India. However, given that brands like Realme have well and truly upped the ante with its Realme 5-series this year, and is promising to take it further with the upcoming Realme XT, it won’t be a major surprise if the next-gen Redmi Note devices make their way to India sooner rather than later.
