Xiaomi has often been accused of being indifferent with its update schedule, but the company on Tuesday surprised one and all by rolling out the stable Android 10 update for its Redmi K20 Pro on the same day that Google released the software for its Pixel devices. Do note that according to XDA, the update is only being rolled out in the company’s two largest markets – China and India – with no word on when it might be rolled out globally.
In case you own either the Indian or Chinese model, you can expect to soon receive an update notification on your spanking new handset, in case you haven’t already. As is almost always the case, the update is being rolled out in batches, so it might take a while before you see it on your device, but you can check for it manually by going over to the Settings menu. While the Chinese version of the software comes as MIUI 10.4.4.0, the Indian units are getting MIUI 10.4.7.0.
Xiaomi had been beta testing Android 10 for the Redmi K20 Pro over the past several weeks, so it was evident that the company had been planning to roll out the update sooner than usual, but not even the most ardent of Xiaomi fans – and there are many, as well well know – could have imagined in their wildest dreams that the update will be available on Day Zero.
As mentioned already, the update is only rolling out to the Indian and Chinese models and not to the International variant known as the Mi 9T Pro, but we suspect that it would happen sooner than usual, as well. Meanwhile, the Essential Ph-1 is another device to have received Android 10 on day-1, as was the case last year with Android 9 Pie, while OnePlus has also released a beta version of the software for the OnePlus 7 and 7 Pro, but there’s no ETA for the stable rollout.
